It is hard to believe that it is already time for kids to start going back to school. It seems like it is getting earlier and earlier every year!! I have to say, though, the fact that it is back to school time means that fall is right around the corner! I am trying to wait until after Labor Day to start decorating for fall…my husband LOVES summer and keeps telling me that I am trying to push it away too quickly 🙂
Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of great things about summer. But by the time August rolls around, I have just had enough. It starts to get really hot and humid (at least here in Ohio!) and the novelty just sort of starts to wear off!
On the other hand, I love everything about fall! The colors. The smells. Pumpkin Spice EVERYTHING! Boots. Football. The list goes on and on! Every year I look forward to that first college football Saturday when it is just cool enough to justify making chili and hot apple cider! There is nothing better than those smells permeating the house. It just makes everything feel so…homey!
And then there are the holidays! Halloween is just so much fun. Getting out all the orange and black and decorating the house with all the fun, creepy things that you would never think to put out otherwise! And I love trolling Pinterest for all the cool foods and creepy preparations for the perfect Halloween party! People can be so creative! Trick or Treat is one of my favorite days of the year! Bundling up, with a mug of apple cider, and sitting on the driveway, waiting for the kids to come up in their costumes. I have to admit, nothing makes me feel older than on trick-0r-treat night, when kids come up dressed as characters that I have never seen or heard of before! Now in my defense, I don’t have kids, so I am not up on all that is cool and trendy out there right now! But the reactions from some of those kids when I let them know that I have absolutely no idea who they are supposed to be is priceless!
And then you can’t forget Thanksgiving! This was always one of my favorites. Just a day to eat and spend time with family and friends….it doesn’t get any better than that! It is the perfect way to wrap up my favorite of all seasons!
What are you looking forward to most about fall??
